Bikes, Bikes, Bikes! Don’t we just love them?
When the box arrived via a courier I was excited to open it up and take a look at this carbon beauty, the Maskinen Prodigy R1 B+. Maskinen Bikes are based in Denmark and aim to produce top of the line, carbon bikes.
So thanks to Plusbikes, I was given the Maskinen hard tail to ride for a few weeks here in North Wales, UK. Their B+ is based on their carbon fat bike frame with their own carbon Revolvek 27.5” 50mm rims. This means that come summer or winter, you can swap from the 27.5” to their 65mm or 85mm cousins for that full fat ride. Hopefully we’ll get to do a full fat review in the the future.
Carbon rims and the tyres are 3.25 VeeTire Trax Fatty.
This Prodigy R1 is equipped with a Bluto up front to help with the rough stuff and a Reverb stealth dropper to save the delicate bits. The bike is kitted out with Sram XX1 throughout. The gearing is the huge Sram XX1 rear cassette which is 11 speed. It will be interesting to see if the 10-42 rear and the 28 on the front will have the range of gearing for my type of riding. The brakes are Sram Guide Ultimate which has a 200mm rear disc and a 180mm on the front. Like a lot of the spec on the Maskinen Prodigy R1, the brake levers are carbon. That also goes for the Maskinen 80mm stem and 820mm bars. There’s a lot of carbon loveliness on this machine!!
So what am I going to do with this ‘new’ bike?
In my first week I’ve already bagged a classic 53 miler over a mixture of terrain ranging from grassy singletrack to hard packed gravel. I’ve also loaded the bivvy gear on her for a weekend away in some local Welsh forests for some B+ fun.
I intend on riding my normal local loops to compare how she handles to other rides I’ve had. Also I’d like to bag some longer rides in as the light weight of the Maskinen I believe would allow me to go that bit further. Let’s find out…..
