Arguably the best days of Interbike are the Dirt Demo days. We get to actually ride bikes instead of stand around under neon lights in the stale air of the convention center just talking about bikes. This year was a little spicy with dust and rain storms each day, but we still managed to get a look at a bunch of great new bikes for 2016. Here are some of the highlights in the world of plus bikes:
Specialized came out firing with both barrels for 2016 with 27.5+ hardtail and full suspension models. Then going one step further and offering them both in women’s specific configurations as well.
The new plus sized hardtails from Specialized, called the Fuse for th men’s version and the Ruze for the women’s version (shown here).
Everyone is still figuring out how to manage the drive side chain stays to get the shortest rear end possible. Here is some fancy chainstay shaping on the Ruze
Marin is celebrating their 30th anniversary as a company this year, so they decided to re-issue a couple of their classic models. The 2016 Pine Mountain comes with the classic aesthetic of the 1990’s, but that is about it from the past. Modern geometry, Boost hub spacing, dropper post and the new Nailed through axle system make this bike a serious contender.
Cannondale threw its hat into the plusbike ring with a resurrection of their classic Beast of the East. They only had one at the show and it was just for display. We hope to get on one soon. There was also talk of a full suspension model coming to market soon.
